The Bands Origin

There has been a brass band in Keynsham since before the second world war. The original band was wound up in approximately 1975 but was reformed in 1980.

The Current Band

The band currently consists of approximately 25 players with ages ranging from 16 to 60+, these players being drawn from many different
background. There is a core of approximately 15 players who have been with the band for over 20 years, and some of these having been in the band sinces its re-formation in 1980. Many of the players are former pupils of Broadlands school and/or former members of the Avon County Youth Brass Band (now disbanded).
The band has a varied repertoire, which leans away from the traditional brass band sound of marches and suites in favour of a more contemporary arrangements.

Performance Schedule

The KBB perform throughout the year with usually about 15 engagements per year. This years calendar gives details of our current list of engagements.

Musical Standard

It is difficult to quantify the musical standard of the KBB without some comparison being made to the national sections used in brass band contesting. The band regularly performs pieces suitable for 4th, 3rd and in some cases 2nd sections bands. The KBB is probably one of the few brass bands in the Bristol/Bath area which offer such a high standards without the dedication and commitment required by a contest/competition band.
The KBB includes a number of accomplished sololists who are featured in the bands public performances.
Those players who wish to develop their talents to the highest national standard are free to move on to a contesting band. A number of former KBB players have gone on to play with some of the top bands in the Country – Grimethrope, Stanshaw, Flowers and the RAF Marine Band to name a few. A number of these players make ‘guest appearances’ with the KBB when they are able.
